Windows
Media Player (WMP) often tries to play .mov files, since it has some
ability to handle the QuickTime mime type. This can happen even if
QuickTime is installed on your machine. Unfortunately WMP is clueless
when it comes to QTVR, but tries to play them anyway. The result is
a broken movie icon or a QTVR that plays as a linear movie. If you
are seeing this kind of behavior with QuickTime installed, you should
completely uninstall whatever version of QuickTime you have and do
a clean install of QuickTime 4.1 from the Apple site. Jerky playback
of the larger movies is indicative of a slow processor trying to do
its best. Better performance can be obtained by quitting other applications
and minimizing system tasks. The best remedy is to go out and buy
a faster computer (preferably a G4 Mac....you'll love it!) |

MacOs:
There
are generally few problems with QTVR on Macs. Since may of these
movies are very big, you may need to increase the RAM allocation
to your browser if it crashes while playing the movies. Likewise
if you download the large movies and try to play them in QuickTime
Player, you may experience "out of memory" errors. If
this happens, increase the RAM allocation of QuickTime Player. If
you have continued problems, you should download the latest versions
of your browser and get QuickTime 4.1 from the Apple site. Jerky
playback of the larger movies is indicative of a slow processor
trying to do its best. Better performance can be obtained by quitting
other applications and minimizing system tasks, such as file sharing.
The best remedy is to go out a buy a new G4!

Other
Operating Systems:
Sorry
there is currently no port of QuickTimeVR to Linux or other operating
systems. There are some utilities that offer some QuickTime playback
support in UNIX, but to my knowledge this doesn't extend to QTVR.
There may be something new that I don't know about so, if you find
a QTVR player, please let me know.
